Alfred University students, faculty, and staff gather at the 2024 Undergraduate Research Forum, held at the Joyce-Walton Center on Thursday, April 18. More than 100 students—representing the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the Inamori School of Engineering and the School of Art and Design and Performing Arts Division presented their capstone project work. Fifty students represented the Inamori School of Engineering, with 28 posters; six represented the School of Art and Design, with five posters; 32 represented the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, with 24 posters; and 12 represented the College of Business, with six posters.

World-renowned economist Nadarajan “Raj” Chetty, whose research focuses on designing effective government policies which address social and economic disparities, will deliver the keynote address for Alfred University’s 2024 commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 11. Commencement begins at 10 a.m. in the Galanis Family Area, McLane Center.

ALFRED, NY – Alfred University celebrated its students and faculty Friday afternoon, April 19, during the annual Honors Convocation, held in Miller Theater. Among the honorees were Angie Taylor, Chief Diversity Officer and Title IX Coordinator, who received the prestigious Abigail Allen Award, and students Brian Ngatunga and Emilia Donenberg Smith, winners of the Marlin Miller Outstanding Senior Award.

Ashton Julian, a fourth-year Alfred University student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, delivered their award-winning essay "Stranger Things: Robin Buckley and the Female Autism Phenotype Theory" at the April 18 Bergren forum in Nevins theater. The essay earned top honors in the 2024 Wit and Wisdom Student Award competition sponsored by the Alfred University chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

Myungkoo Kang, Assistant Professor of Ceramic Engineering in Alfred University’s Inamori School of Engineering, has co-authored a paper on self-healing glasses which can repair themselves from damage caused by exposure to gamma radiation.

Zhongbei (Daisy) Wu, Clinical Associate Professor of Music and Language at Alfred University, recently delivered a lecture and led a panel discussion at United Nations Headquarters, in New York City. Wu’s lecture, “Music of Love and Words of Harmony,” marked the 15th UN Chinese Language Day, held April 18.
